We want to respectfully acknowledge that all our trail races here in the South Sound of Western Washington are in the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people, specifically the Skokomish, Nisqually, Cowlitz, Chehalis and Squaxin Island tribes.
The Beast of Big Creek at Mount Ellinor is in the traditional territory of the Twana/Skokomish.
Olympia, Hood Canal and the South Puget Sound region are covered by the Treaty of Medicine Creek, signed under duress in 1854, and the Treaty of Point No Point, signed in 1855. Rock Candy Running is acknowledging the Tribal governments and their roles today in taking care of these lands and resources.
Beast of Big Creek is granted by a Special Use Permit through the Olympic National Forest, U.S. Forest Service. In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
The Beast of Big Creek Trail Race is operating under a special use permit from the USDA - Forest Service on the Olympic National Forest. Our experience working with the Forest Service has been nothing but positive over these past years. Big ups to these dedicated professionals who truly want everybody to enjoy and protect our public lands.
